7870 Amigos Need Help

Your Amigos de Honduras Committee needs your help. Our fundraising
efforts this year have come up short and we have projects to complete
this January/February and could really use your help.
As you are probably aware, our district will be conducting Hands to
Honduras humanitarian projects in January and February of 2008 similar
to the ones we have done every year since 2002. During these trips, we
have constructed 3 schools, converted 2 buildings into schools, painted
a school, rehabilitated a youth center and have completed the
construction of a medical/dental clinic.
In 2008 we will have two teams. The first team, led by Jeanne Petrin and Jim Magennis, will be traveling to Danli Jan 26th to Feb 2nd. The second team, led by Henry and Nora Swierczynski, will be traveling to San Pedro Sula Feb 2nd - February 10th.
This year we will be working with the Danli Rotary Club to add two desperately needed class rooms to the Los Robles school we built in 2005. When we built this school, this poor village only had 36 children. The school now has to support 108 children. One classroom is divided into two groups while one class it taught outside under a canopy. This addition will be named after John O?Leary, the Merrimack Rotarian who started our districts efforts in Honduras after Hurricane Mitch struck in 1995. The cost of this year?s Danli project will be approximately $10,000.
In San Pedro, the team will be working in the village of Colinas de Suiza, a village about 30 min drive from San Pedro that was settled by refugees displaced by Hurricane Mitch. There are a never ending list of much needed repairs and projects there like building bathrooms, repairing roofs and building a wall to enclose a school. Santa Gertrudis Clinic completed in 2007
Amigos is really in need of funds. Our annual raffle fundraiser didn?t bring in the monies we need to complete these projects. We are asking that each club make a donation to this effort. We can also use donations from individuals as well. Please make your checks payable to Amigos De Honduras. This is the name of our District?s program and the donations are tax deductible as it is a 501c3. We hope that each club can do all it can to help us make the 2008 programs a success.
