Free Camp for Low Income Kids in Franconia
Donna Gallagher spoke to the CCSRC on February 21, 2008. She is with Copper Cannon Camp in Franconia. They are the only free camp for low income children in New Hampshire. 40 Kids came from the Concord area in 2007.
Situated on 128 beautiful acres in the White Mountains, near Franconia Notch State Park, Copper Cannon provides more than just a meaningful outdoor experience. The Summer Camp Program also teaches children fundamentals of good citizenship, moral behavior, respect for themselves and others, and strives to instill a sense of self-esteem and pride.
Each summer almost 400 of NH at risk youth from 84 different towns have a chance to benefit from a week at Copper Cannon. They have had 40 children from our area in the last 2 years. Their goal is to become better known away from the North Country where they are located. Copper Cannon wants to give all children who are eligible a chance to experience a week of camp.
