Club Serves a Holiday Meal

On Wednesday night, December 12th, the club served a holiday meal to about 50 residents of the Crutchfield Apartments at 15 Pittman Street.
Rotarian chief Judy Flowers, cooked from scratch, macaroni and cheese as a commercially prepared product wasn't available from Sam's Club. At the venue, Judy also offered broiled finger having grabbed the wrong thing in the oven. Quick application of ice and a first aid kit minimized the damage. Judy brought the table decorations as well as some animated Christmas battery operated characters including St Nick. The result was very festive. Jack's boombox added music of the season.
The hams (two prepared by Judy and two by Jack) were carved by Tony, who served ably assisted by Mike Dunn and granddaughter Ashley. Other servers were Dick Johnson and wife Taffy, Kevin, Louis Chan, Joel and Padre.
Karen and two young ladies from Girls, Inc. did some decorations and made a 100 cookies as did Judy and Jack's wife Jonna. The Girls Inc. ladies were terrific at serving the residents both in the dining room and did some room deliveries. The meal consisted of ham, green beans, baked beans, mac & cheese, rolls, served with coffee, hot chocolate and ginger ale and cookies for desert There were also boxes of oranges. Each of the diners had a packet of goodies to take with them after the meal.
It appeared the the residents really appreciated the Club's efforts. There was enough food left over so that residents were able take plates back to their rooms. After the residents had what they needed, A parade of Rotarians went out the back door and up to the Friendly Kitchen bringing ham, beans and oranges.
Clean up duty fell to everyone with special Kudos to Mike Dunn as the pot washer. By 7:15 the club loaded up and headed out - glad that their first effort had gone so well and pleased that they could bring some good cheer to the residents in this holiday season.
